Be the Best you can be in Sport
A book for Irish youth
Paul Kilgannon is the author of this recently published book. Paul is from Claregalway. A teacher, a coach and someone who is hugely passionate about coaching in sport. We got to meet Paul in Navan RFC last year, when he gave us a great seminar in the club based on his first book – the Carver Framework – Coaching Children in sport.
While his first book was written for coaches and adults involved in supporting children in sport, this book is addressed to the young person in sport. A guide that will help young people in sport develop themselves as athletes and as people. There are insightful contributions from over 50 Irish people involved in sport. Some we might know like Bundee Aki talking about dealing with his own personal setbacks or Joey Carbery on dealing with his recent multiple injury problems. Others we might not know so well like retired Irish soccer player Claire Scanlan who talks about her positive mindset to learning and continuous improvement or middle-distance runner Nadia Power on dealing with physical maturation as a teenager.
To assist Paul in promoting his book, the club will earn €5 for every book that is sold. While we are happy to be able to raise funds for the club through this mechanism, that is only a peripheral bonus. The real benefit of this book is in the learnings that may just help the young player to understand sport in their lives, keep them playing sport into adulthood, and to become better teammates and people because of sport.
As a parent I would be recommending this book to all young people that are involved in sport. (And also, for their parents to dip into!) At over 300 pages it is not something that will be read cover to cover, but for children in the youth system (i.e. over 13), it is something that will pique their interest and assist them in developing their thinking and their goals.
‘Be the best you can be in sport will be available to purchase through the Navan RFC Clubzap or at this link – https://navanrfc.clubifyapp.com/products/2762/purchases/new.
It costs €20.00, of which Paul will donate €5.00 to Navan RFC for every copy bought through the Club.
We will have copies of the book available for collection at training in the club on the weekends of the 12/13th and 19/20th Dec. Please order early. Thank you.
