U12 Girls Blitz Sunday 12 November

Navan RFC U12 Girls hosted their first blitz of season on Sunday. It was a bitterly cold morning, but this didn’t deter 60 girls from turning up. Mullingar, Virginia and Greystones all arrived for ten o clock and we were on our way by ten thirty.

First up was Virginia and Greystones on pitch 3B and Navan V Miniheifs on pitch 3A. Mullingar are known as the miniheifs, after their senior lady’s team, “The Mullingar Heifers”. These two have played earlier in the season and are well matched. Navan prevailed, scoring 6 tries to Mullingar’s 4. Emma Brogan scored the first, then Alex Connor, Sarah Molloy, Emily Flynn and Shauna Hogan got the last two.

Next up was Virginia. Virginia, using Ulster age cut offs, had a six month disadvantage, playing an u11 team put up a good show, scoring 6 to Navan’s 8 tries. Emma Brogan got two in this game.  Sarah Molloy scored three with Emily Flynn, Lia MacEwan and Molly Murphy claiming the rest. Meanwhile, Mullingar and Greystones played on pitch B.

Last game was Navan V Greystones on Pitch A and Mullingar V Virginia on Pitch B. This was Navan’s toughest encounter.  Each team took turns scoring, ending up 4 tries to 3. Emma Brogan got a hat-trick and Sarah Molloy scored the last.

Navan won all their matches and all the squad did their part.  The rest of the team consisted of Kym McGrath, Lilly Hennessy, Isabella Mallon, Katie Kearney, Katie Clarke, Olivia Finnegan, Lucy Delaney, Caragh Foley, Ellen Hogan, Aisling Collier and Emma Hyland.

A special thanks to Matt from Mullingar and Anthony Horan for reffing an hour of rugby each.
