U12 Navan Girls V U12 Mullingar Girls Saturday 30th September
Our U 12 girls travelled to Mullingar on Saturday along with the Navan U14 and U16 girls. We played our hosts in three 10 minuet games. Our team on the day was a mix of novice players along with our more experienced players.
Navan had a very strong first game, with some great running and good distribution of the ball and some lovely passing. In defence Isabella Mallon, Lia McEwan and Emma Brogan made some fantastic tackles to keep Navan ahead. Sarah Molloy, Kate O’Reilly and Shauna Hogan showed real leadership, encouraging the girls to get their defence line and move up on the opposition. Tries in the first game, Emma Brogan (2), Isabella Mallon (1), Emily Flynn (1) and Sarah Molloy (1).
Mullingar came out firing in the second game and were excellent at ripping ball, rucking and had some fast runners. They took Navan a little by surprise, but the girls very quickly got focused and were back in the game. Kym McGrath scored 2 tries on her debut, Sarah Molloy (1), Emma Brogan (1) and Emily Flynn (1). It was wonderful to watch our newer players, Katie Clarke, Ella Thompson and Mia Cullen adapting to the game and working so hard to support their new teammates.
By game three the intensity and pace of the game had reached new heights. When one side scored the other side was very quick to respond with a score. The whole team worked so hard to keep Mullingar back from our try line. The whole team and especially the newer players were making tackles, diving on any loose ball and running in support when a Navan player made a break. This hard work paid off with Emma Brogan scoring an impressive 5 tries in this game, Isabella Mallon (2), Sarah Molloy (1) and Emily Flynn (1).
