Aviva Min Blitz Tullamore
Navan U12 Girls
Tullamore RFC hosted a fantastic festival of rugby on Saturday. Twenty-eight teams took part, five of which were u12 girls. Approximately, four hundred children, each played an hour of rugby. The locals provided cardboard boxes packed with sandwiches, fruit, water and lots of Glenisk yogurt.
The girls played their first match against the home side Tullamore. They won this comfortably with two tries from Sarah Molloy, two more from Emma Brogan and one from Aisling Collier. This was followed by a short break and then it was Newbridge. Newbridge scored two unanswered tries early on. Navan fought back hard but time went against them. This was to be the only game they lost.
Back to winning ways against Greystones with two tries from Kym McGrath and three more from Emma Brogan. Greystones replied with two. Final score, five tries to two.
The next and final match, against Naas was the best of the day. Two tired teams took to the field, and although they fought tooth and nail, neither team could score. Several times, players from either side broke through, but each time they were chased down. The draw was a fair reflection on the game. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top, next time they meet.
All the girls put in a great effort. Sarah Byrne and Molly Murphy, deserve a special mention as the youngest on the pitch, both still qualifying as u10. It didn’t hold them back on the day
The squad consisted of Lia MacEwan, Sarah Molloy, Lillian Brady, Emily Flynn, Aisling Collier, Emma Brogan, Emma Hyland, Molly Murphy, Alex Connor, Kate O’Reilly, Olivia Finnegan, Sophie O’Neill, Kym McGrath, Katie Kearney, Katie Clarke and Sarah Byrne. Well done all.
